Hope Christian Ministries
Hope Christian Ministries (HCM) is a
dynamic spiritual organization, empowered by the Holy Spirit to
share Christ with as many people as possible within the church,
community, and throughout the
world by providing for them a place of worship, Hope Restoration
Church, and a place of education Hope Christian School. We are
a worshiping fellowship experiencing an awareness of God,
recognizing His person, and responding in obedience to His
leadership.
Our mission is to reach the unchurched
people with the love of Jesus Christ, to disciple believers to
reach their own people groups, and to restore people’s hope in
God’s leading in Nairobi and in the world.
Hope Christian Ministries began in 2001.
Mr. Tom Chore returned to Nairobi, Kenya after earning a Master
of Divinity degree from the School of Theology, Virginia Union
University in May 2001. He felt compelled to actualize his
theological training and realized the inherent dream of sharing
his ministry and calling with people from his native land. In
July 2001, Chore’s desire to share his ministry prompted him to
make contact with the local community leaders. After a series
of meetings with local leaders, Chore felt led of the Holy
Spirit to establish a church in a predominantly Muslim
community.
HCM is located in the Tassia Estate,
a suburb of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, in the area east
of the central business district. The immediate area surrounding
the church consists of the Kware, Mkuru, Kwa–Njenga, and Tassia
slums, which are heavily populated and overrun with poverty.
There are an estimated at 100,000 people in this area. It is a
highly populated, urban area that has a mixture of all forty-two
ethnic groups of Kenya.
Hope
Restoration Church and Hope Christian Ministries serves the
community in many ways. The church established in November
2001. Pastor Chore currently is working with four
associate pastors. They also have ministries for children,
youth, men's groups, women's ministries, meetings for married
couples. Hope Restoration Church has always had a strong
commitment to Christian Education and discipleship. HRC
started with fourteen children attending Sunday School.
Today on the average Sunday there are seventy five children and
over forty adults in attendance. On Wednesdays over 100
people attend midweek meetings for adults and children.
Hope Christian School was established in
2003.
It
began with one Kindergarten class, with less than five children,
today the school has developed into a primary school. It offers
two classes for each grade level beginning from Kindergarten to
Third grade. The Fourth Grade only has one class available.
There is a large demand for more classes to be added. However,
currently, the school cannot struggles to pay for the current
programming. The school has a growing number of pupils, nine
teachers, one driver, one assistant, two cooks, an office
assistant, custodian and two needed security guards. Most work
as volunteers. With an increasing number of poor school-aged
children in the community, the needs have greatly increased.
Current Needs: The recent unrest in
the country has left many people around Nairobi desperate.
After the violence seen in the months of January, February and
March, Pastor Tom Chore and his family responded to the needs of
many children affected by the violence. Currently the
children are living with extended family but attending school at
the church and are in need of sponsorship for uniforms and food.
