Transformed to Transform Others
VISION
Our vision is to see men
with drug addiction problems experience the transformational
power of God’s love, causing a lasting change in their lives.
MISSION
Adullam Ministries, A.C.
exists to help men with drug addictions leave their addictive
habits and be restored in a new life with Jesus Christ,
preparing them to be reintegrated into society with the
possibility to continue serving God in ministry. This is
accomplished through attention to spiritual and moral needs,
community service and recreational activities.
HISTORY
The issue of drug addictions
is well known here in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. As a result of
the rise in addiction rates over the past few decades, the city
has seen an innumerable amount of negative consequences of this
problem, including high crime rates, prisons filled to capacity
and the disintegration of families. Each day the young people of
Juárez face a growing danger of becoming entangled in this
horrible trap. Due to these problems, a great need exists in our
city for people who are dedicated to combating the issue of drug
abuse.
Adullam Ministries, A.C.
began inside of the CERESO prison of Ciudad Juárez. By the end
of the 1990’s, many men were rehabilitating from their drug
addictions and turning their lives over serving God inside of
the prison. However, they often faced difficulties in
reintegrating into society once they left the prison due to the
lack of a place for them to stay and receive Christian support.
As a result of this problem, God placed the idea in the hearts
of the leaders of the prison ministry to open a home where the
men could find support when they left prison and where addicts
from the streets of Juárez could come to find help. With this
new vision and confidence in God’s guidance, the rehabilitation
center opened in March of 2000 in the Colonia Guadalajara
Izquierda. Later, the center changed locations to the Colonia
Felipe Angeles, where we are currently working.
PROGRAM
Our experience in working
with people with addiction problems has led us to form the
program we are currently using in the rehabilitation center. We
believe that if the addict does not have the desire and will to
see a change in his life, no treatment can cause a lasting
change in him. For this reason we do not impose a specific
length of time required for admitants to stay in the program,
nor do we admit men into the program against their will. Each
person responds differently to the rehabilitation process, and
we have seen some ready to reintegrate into society in a few
months and others who stay in the program for more than a year.
Above all, we believe that God works within his perfect timing
in each person involved in the ministry.
During the time that the men
spend in the rehabilitation center, they take part in various
activities within and outside of the home. Each of these
activities form a part of the rehabilitation and restoration
process, and we divide them into the following areas:
Spiritual Attention
Since we believe that God is
the one who can truly change the lives of drug addicts, we place
the majority of our emphasis on the spiritual needs of the men.
This is accomplished through a variety of activities:
Ř
Prayer and devotion as a large
group
Ř
Personal prayer and
devotion
Ř
Biblical teaching by visiting
ministers
Ř
Attending a local church
Community Service
We have learned first-hand
that a person who has experienced a change in his life often
desires to demonstrate his gratitude. We encourage the men in
our program to accomplish this through community service.
In recent years, this has
included the following:

Ř
Visitation and ministry in local
jails and prisons
Ř
Street ministry and
handing out food in the Benito Juárez Monument Plaza
Ř
Ministry and handing out food in
the drug houses
Ř
Service in two children’s soup
kitchens
Ř
Help with manual labor needs in the
community
Ř
Mission trips into the mountains of
Chihuahua
Recreation
To complement the other
areas of attention of our program, we also include activities
that concentrate on physical health and that build unity among
the men in the program. The following activities help us meet
these goals:
Ř
Sports or physical activities as a
group
Ř
Movies
Ř
Carpentry
classes
Ř
Recreational outings
FUTURE
Our desire is to see the men
who go through the program at Adullam Ministries, A.C.
experience a complete change in their lives and be able to
transform other people through the transformation they
themselves have experienced. It has been a great joy for us to
watch as many of the rehabilitated men return to their families
and establish a new life with them. We have also had the
pleasure of seeing others who have felt the call to serve God in
full time ministry open new rehabilitation centers and
children’s ministries in other parts of Ciudad Juárez and
Chihuahua. We keep in contact with the leaders of these
organizations and offer them our support in the form of sending
volunteers from the rehabilitation center to help them with
their work. In addition to being a help to them, this has served
as another great opportunity to encourage the value of service
in the men in the program. We have seen these new ministries
flourish over the past few years, and we hope to see even more
in the future.
Please see this ministries web site for more
details of their current developments.
