Our Story

In 2006 Jacob McCormick began outreach work to the Grand Portage Reservation in Minnesota serving as a youth pastor, and later was appointed senior pastor.

The mission of Pastor McCormick and his team at Mt. Rose Community Church is to love, serve, and engage.

We find creative and unique ways to show the community of Grand Portage the LOVE of Jesus by loving them. One of the best ways to show our community the love of Jesus and to love on our community is to get out of the church building and SERVE our community. Lastly, we want to engage with our community seeking to further understand the history of Grand Portage, the culture, and the Ojibwe language.

It's important to us that the local people know that we care about the things that they care about. We want to do life together, fully engaged with one another.

Our Impact

We have a flourishing youth group of young native teens who are curious about who this Jesus is and what He means to them on their personal journey. Wednesday nights our youth meet to eat together, play games and then discuss the gospel, growing deeper in understanding the Word of God.

One of our goals is to get outside the walls of the church into the community. We do this by hosting events such as hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, horseback riding, and more.

In an effort to connect our youth with other natives across the US we have been a host location for a leadership summit. Our students had the opportunity to hear from incredibly gifted native presenters who shared the hope of Jesus.

So far we have raised several young native people to go into ministry, being called to serve in other locations. We are thrilled to see young native men and women claim Christ, and go out and serve Jesus to other native communities. We aim to continue making disciples and hope that others will be called to continue ministry locally.
