Keep the Culture, Reach the People

Our Story

Thrive Tanzania is a Christian charity organization dedicated to bringing the life-changing love of Jesus into communities in Tanzania. We recognize that every person was created by God on purpose and for a purpose - both collective and individual. It is the heart of God that we function as a unified body. Each of us having been given gifts and abilities designed to benefit the greater whole, we are interconnected. When one is stronger, we all are stronger. With this understanding, the mission of Thrive Tanzania is to provide essential services needed for each person to fulfill the purpose for which they were created.

Founded by Jodi Mincer, Thrive Tanzania began after her mission trips to the DRC and Kenya led her to Mbamba Bay, Tanzania—a beautiful area on Lake Nyasa with vibrant people but limited access to the Gospel and Biblical discipleship. In partnership with a local church in Dar es Salaam and Trinity Assembly of God in Pennsylvania, Thrive Tanzania is launching ministry efforts in Mbamba Bay.

In addition to sharing the Gospel, there are several pressing challenges to address in the community, such as access to basic necessities such as running water and medical care. Economic opportunities are scarce, primarily due to a lack of education. Many people rely on sporadic day labor, while some work as tradesmen, such as brick builders and construction workers. However, construction skills are generally restricted to simple one-story, four-walled buildings. The area currently lacks plumbing and electricity, further highlighting the need for development.

Our Vision

Thrive Tanzania seeks to serve local communities by:

  • improving living conditions

  • providing opportunities for employment including professional development and skills training

  • creating markets for local businesses

  • establishing a place for outreach workers to reside while providing services for the community

  • facilitating collaboration between Tanzanian and international churches to provide consistent and appropriate discipleship training

Focus Areas

  1. Education
To equip local community members with education in healthcare, engineering, entrepreneurship, and other trades.
  2. Healthcare
Improving access to medical care: medical services, ambulance service, professional at-home birth assistance and annual wellness checks.
  3. Community Support
Through Biblical teaching and demonstration, our vision is for individuals to embrace God’s love, follow the Holy Spirit, and fulfill their God-given purpose, perpetuating a cycle of discipleship and growth.

Our Impact

Our church partnerships are actively planning the establishment of ministry in the Mbamba Bay area.

To address the significant practical needs within our focus areas, we will host skilled outreach workers at our retreat center to train and equip local residents. Thrive Tanzania has acquired land in Mbamba Bay, and construction is underway.

Current Projects

Phase One

  • Running Water and Septic: Establish running water and a septic system to support the bathhouse currently under construction, with a goal of providing running water for the village.
  • Construction of Bathhouse: Employing locals to build a bathhouse with showers and toilets.
  • Set Up Camp: Camping tents will provide preliminary accommodations for visitors.
  • Electricity: Install four telephone poles to bring electricity to the site, making it the first in the area to have power access.

Phase Two

  • Main Buildings and Bungalows: Permanent accommodations with a reception area, offices, industrial kitchen, dining hall, and a large gathering space.

Your donation will build a self-sufficient community, transforming lives spiritually and practically.

Rather than providing services for the people, our goal is to equip the community to provide services that come from the people. It is the same concept as “give a man a fish, feed him for a day – teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.”                                                                                  - Jodi Mincer
