Helping You Help the World

We hope this letter finds you well and experiencing grace amidst the unique season of difficulty that our world is in at this time.

As the snow finally disappears here in Minnesota, giving way to green grass and sunshine, we are excited to share with you our Spring 2020 update.

Check out some of the amazing things God has done with your help thus far!

Welcoming our new partner project, Global Horizons Field Technology!

Global Horizons Field Technology is bringing technology to areas that lack the resources or infrastructure for internet access and online educational materials.

The main product they offer is the GHI Pi, a very low-cost computer device loaded with software. It contains:

  • Educational materials, including Khan Academy and Wikipedia…
  • Videos, books, and games for kids…
  • Theological resources…
  • Health resources…
  • Culture-specific educational documents, such as training in agriculture for small farmers, livestock care, nutrition information, etc…
  • And so much more!

The GHI Pi is something a mission trip group, missionary or other organization could learn to use and easily distribute to a group when they travel.  We are excited for the impact they will continue to have!

Mission: Moving Mountains

In January, M:MM was able to welcome a group of nursing students from Bethel University to the area (see photo), teaching them about local agriculture and the community development programs.  The group was led by Bethel professor and GHI Board Member Dave Muhovich.

M:MM also made huge progress recently, developing a relationship with the Sub-county of Sibanga, where they will begin to implement Discipling for Development training among the leaders and community there!

Herb’s Trip

At the end of 2019, one of GHI’s founders, Herb Klem, traveled to Africa!  His experience included:

  • Meeting with current and potential GHI project leaders.
  • Being asked to preach and teach at different churches he visited.
  • Reuniting with former colleagues and students, who affirmed him in the work he had done and seeds he had planted in past years.
  • Gaining understanding of the deeply-rooted poverty and persecution in some of the areas he visited.
  • Demonstrating our new project’s GHI Pi technology to community leaders, who were “blown away with the simplicity and the volume of materials that were on it.”

Spring 2020 Project Impact Stats:

  • A new school bus allows over 30 children to get to school each day in Ghana since February. (MHM)
  • Over 2000 young women ministered to in Kenya on March 8th, International Women’s Day. (IFAGE)
  • 4 ceiling fans and an air conditioning unit installed in a health clinic in Sierra Leone. (FASE)
  • Construction on the House of Hope in Croatia (a future space for refugee integration support) is due to be completed in the next few months. (Zagreb)
  • Bless100 funds raised in November will be used this spring to support 100 families experiencing isolation, economic uncertainty, and job loss.  (Global Capacities)
  • 1000 Menstrual kits supplied to women lacking proper sanitary supplies in Kenya. (IFAGE)
  • 12 hand-washing stations with water drums and soap provided throughout the Kibera slum in Kenya in response to COVID-19.  (YCT)
  • School supplies and clothes donated to Sierra Leone projects from Apple Valley High School. (FASE)
  • Over 30 women ministered to through a weekly bible study on significant women in Scripture. (Designed to be Pillars)

From the Office:

The theme of our year so far has been one of encouragement, intercession, and an increased awareness of God’s providence.
We have learned to ask great things of Him, and have seen Him work such wonders already, through each of you and our faithful project leaders!

Highlights so far this spring include:

  • A lunch spent sharing laughter, good conversation, and a “Nothing Bundt” cake with the ladies from the office upstairs in celebration of Jill’s birthday.
  • Weekly times of prayer for each of our projects, catching up on how they’re doing, interceding for specific needs, and rejoicing when we saw those prayers answered.
  • Ash Wednesday when Randy from the office upstairs brought us all a lovely variety of snacks because he was worried we’d be fasting.
  • The day that one of the staff members generously brought extra toilet paper to the office for another staffer and her family, after all the stores were sold out.
  • Walking through “The One-Life Solution” book together, sharing the personal lessons and moments of growth that it inspired as we went.

We are blessed to be working from home for the time being but look forward to when we can return to the camaraderie and connectivity of the office environment!

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

We are so grateful for you and the irreplaceable role you play as part of Global Horizons Inc.  We hope this update gives you a special glimpse into the beautiful and life-changing things that you are a catalyst of in our world today!

May God continue to bless you and yours!
